Storage facility for heavy-duty paper rolls for the paper industry

Safe handling and careful storage of the 4-tonne parent rolls, plus maximum fire protection requirements have been implemented innovatively and efficiently according to the customer's wishes. The ECE-STORAGE facility for heavy-duty rolls of SCA Hygiene Products located in Mannheim was successfully commissioned by BT-Anlagenbau within a short time.

The ECE-STORAGE system set up by BT-Anlagenbau as general contractor has an overall storage capacity of
approx. 6,000 tonnes or 1,800 paper rolls. The maximum weight per roll is 4,000kg. Designed as a production buffer, the storage system supports all converting lines according to demand thanks to a storage and retrieval performance of 24/32 rolls per hour.

After the former warehouse fell victim to a fire, exceptionally high requirements were imposed as regards fire prevention and protection. BT-Anlagenbau demonstrated superior know-how and solution competence in this respect and, by involving the insurer and the local fire brigade, was able to present a comprehensive fire protection solution.

Due to the specially designed material handling system and storage of the parent rolls on system pallets (optionally in vertical or horizontal position), we were able to achieve safe handling and careful storage. Damaging to the valuable semi-finished goods was reduced to a minimum and any detrimental effects on subsequent production stages were eliminated.

The many years of experience BT-Anlagenbau gathered as a general contractor and a construction period of only 12 months enabled the customer to resume normal operations at an earliest possible date.
