Compact high-speed storage system

The innovate idea of organising the storage unit above the pre-storage area allows for maximum flexibility as regards connecting the storage facility! This is possible thanks to the ECE-STORAGE channel storage system of BT-Anlagenbau which not only provides optimum utilization of space but also significant energy savings. This made it possible to provide the customer SCA Mannheim with one of the most efficient distribution centres throughout Europe, with a throughput rate of 1,500 pallets per hour!

The enormous throughput requirements of the customer SCA Hygiene Products in Mannheim were quite something:

• Storage performance: 500 pallets per hour
• Retrieval performance: 1,000 pallets per hour

This task was solved using the highly dynamic ECE-STORAGE system with roll pallets. The facility has a storage capacity of 28,250 storage locations.

In addition to the the highly dynamic storage concept, the enormous throughput was also realised by the capping concept. The short distances within the pre-storage area support the material flow from retrieval to loading.

The high-bay storage facility for finished goods can be termed as "integrated storage". The production location in Mannheim is served by a storage facility for heavy-duty paper rolls The semi-finished goods are stored in this storage facility and used to supply final processing. The finished goods are then stored and retrieved in the highly dynamic ECE-STORAGE channel storage system.

In addition to the compact design of the highly dynamic channel storage system, this high-bay storage facility was implemented as a capping concept. The actual storage facility is set up above the dispatch building, again producing savings in floor space. Thanks to this integration, the material handling technology can be implemented in a very compact form and the 24 loading gates are operated fully automatically.
